Dear family and friends
We were having Khmer BBQ with our friends, the Marek Family last Saturday evening. It is almost like fondue with strips of meat that you fry on a pan over a small fire that has some milk in the bottom filled with veggies and then a little tower in the middle to fry the strips of meat. The Khmer's name for it is "Cow that goes up the hill". We had to put off the fans as it would blow out the fire, and this is an issue as it is almost April, the hottest month in Cambodia. Initially, I thought oh no, we will sweat buckets, but about halfway through our meal, I realized we were having such nice fellowship that none of us were complaining about the heat or really feeling it. When looking at others, we forget our own discomfort.
We are on lockdown again as Covid cases are climbing, so back to online schooling. We are so thankful to Ing and Joe Firley and her travel agency that sent Gideon's school materials all the way from Australia. We fully recommend her if you need anything from Australia/Cambodia via Australia Cambodia Express – Queensland. Gideon shared with us that he feels ashamed that he cannot finish school. We are so thankful that he opened up to us and we had a long encouraging time with him explaining all the options we have right now. We are doing Year 10 now. Please pray with us for wisdom and guidance on what next for Gideon. One of the modules of this year is Mechanics. Dad has to teach him that one and he enjoys having a class with dad. He is trying really hard to do his work every day and there is less resistance. We are so thankful that he understands more now and starting to take responsibility for himself.
There has been a funeral just next to our house for the past 3 days. This means full blast speakers the whole day. First a lot of chanting, and today the funeral music started. It is difficult to describe this music, it has no tune whatsoever, no rhythm, and it is HORRIBLE. Gideon started hitting his head and we all got worked up. The boys were getting frustrated and asked why the people play this and what do they believe. We had an interesting conversation afterward.
Please pray for my friend Benito and Jazzmine Sanchez.
We make this post with heavy hearts that our little baby girl Bella did not make it. We do ask for some privacy and space during this time of grieving, it’s a lot to process and to take in.
If you message us or reach out and we don’t reply please understand we are mourning the loss of our baby girl Bella, so please don’t take it personal. It we really do still appreciate the text messages we just can’t guarantee we will respond.
Thank you.
She had an infection that wasn’t able to detect through ultrasounds and test we were doing weekly since it was inside the amniotic sac that slowly was making my wife sick without realizing it.
We started off at home with the birth very well and strong and the midwife and dula were exceptional. After serval hours of no progress we made the hard decision after feeling defeated to get transported to the hospital.
After a few hours of laboring with the epidural and Pitocin, Bella started to go into destress and we had an emergency caesarean. Unfortunately once the cord was clamped she wasn’t able to survive on her own.
As of now this the most we know and that we feel comfortable sharing.
Please pray for our family and healing of our hearts. We are all hurting so much right now, we know there is a reason for everything and the Lord has a plan and he will us this test and a testimony. He is our rock and it’s because of Him Jazz and I will get through this together!
We pray that God will bless you all in these very challenging times. We pray for you that are struggling with Covid infections to be healed and to protect the people that are vulnerable. Let us not sit still but use this time to connect with people we love and spend time with people around us, if you can go out or use the internet, it is time to learn if you still do not know how to use it hahaha. Show love wherever you go and be patient with each other. If we are willing to overcome these times we need to use Jesus as our example.
Love you all
