Medical to the remote

This Blog is all about the work of God. Nothing we do is without the knowledge of our Father. He is the soul provider for everything we do.
We are Mordegai, Toinette, Suzaan, Gideon and Anton Rossouw from Namibia-Africa. . This Blog is all about our lives here in Cambodia while Suzaan works in South Africa. We are real Farmers from Africa and we love life and what it have to offer and enjoy it day by day.

Mordegai travels to remote villages, doing much needed medical work ,where no other doctors go, with local pastors.

Toinette is at home with the boys. Gideon is no longer with us but Anton will finish with Hope school this year and start online classes .Toinette joins FGC Community Link Cambodia to the villages close by, teaching local children in an after school setting and also women about Health Issues in a village setting.

We consider us Asians as we live such a long time in Asia, eating rice as a staple food and not meat......

Our motto in life comes from a dear friend:

With common sense and God we
can accomplish a lot

Monday night prayers 17 December 2018

And just as you think this year is finished it throws you a curveball just to make its stand for a last time. It started with Toinette riding her bike and it broke badly, then me riding my friend’s bike in Phnom Pehn and it break badly as well and then my truck broke this morning and it will cost an arm and a leg to fix, all that before Christmas. O, how happy and blessed we are to be joyful in this season of peace. Suzaan is back from Vietnam and we need to arrange a set of new plans to make the most of our time together.

We went to Thor Piang Rosey for a medical as well as into the jungle to give some meds to people. While there something amazing happens. A while ago my friend Curtis gave the lady of the shop a small Audio Bible. She got this out and put it on the table and played the message. Here it is the following in my friend’s words ( thanks Manoj).

“Zoom into the photo and look in the green circle..that’s a solar MP3 player playing khmer audio bible..new people are listening to the gospel while coming for health checkup..I had goose bumps coz the lady who is sitting and facing the people is sharing her testimony of how much this message has changed her life. Her family goes to sleep listening to the Bible until the power runs out.  People who were listening to the message were shocked by what they were hearing of a God who created them and loves them..2 people were comparing it to their own beliefs and faith and contrasting the message ‘our whole community needs to hear this..this will change our lives, it gives us hope..this is a message of peace and love..
Can we have an audio bible right now...sadly we didn’t have any on this trip...next time!!”
Please pray for the people in Rum Jopon. It is now 10 years that we are going there and help the people. Like Manoj say:” with every person that hears the Gospel, a 1000 small acts of mercy need to be done beforehand in order for someone to come to that.” Praise God for these people that go most of the Sundays on their bikes about 5 hours away to a church. We asked my friend about the church and learned that they are going to a real solid based church. God is good.

Twans sharing about Health Talk last Saturday: There were 13 moms waiting for me this Saturday afternoon. They are becoming familiar and comfortable with us and each other and it is special to see them visiting with each other and asking each other about their children and lives. The moms asked that I talk about cough and cold as so many of them have or had it this past month. I started to teach about Vit C and how it can help our bodies fight disease. Explained over and over, gave examples of  fruits and veg rich in Vit C. Then afterwards said the 2nd most important thing is to drink lot of water.  So after all that teaching asked them What is 2 of the things we should do when we have a cold. A blank look from most of the moms greeted me. One brave soal then said “ I know, go to the pharmacy !” Reminded them about Vit C. Then asked about the 2nd important thing to do while pointing to the water bottle to give a hint as to what I want for an answer. The very enthusiastic answer “ Eat mango”. OK let’s start the whole teaching all over again ……. . Most of the moms can’t read or write and have had very little school but they are good moms, wanting to learn and help their children. It is an honour spending time with them. We invited them to our River of Life Christmas Party. Please pray for the 2 Christmas parties this Sunday, Mighty Kids in the morning and church in the afternoon. Many people were invited. Please pray as both celebrations will share to gospel and the story of Jesus.

Uncle Derrick Conry had a big operation this last week. Pray for him as he recovers.
Dec.11
Hello dear friends, Today started early and ended late, but what a success the day has been.
We walked to the hospital for the 6.3am start.  The paperwork, shaving, washing and other prep work work was completed by 7.30 when he was taken to the operating theatre. When Prof McGiffin spoke to us this morning he said that they would also be doing a bypass in his heart artery (that they had previously opened by ballooning.) as it still showed narrowing.   The vein will be taken from  his leg.
The body was cooled for the whole procedure, and a heart/lung machine took over pumping the blood esp to the brain.
Incision down the sternum and then clearing the pulmonary arteries.   A slow process.  If you want to know more check out this short YouTube.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=opH7efa5Syw
Before they could close his chest, they needed to wait for the blood clotting process to kick in as there was still a lot of seepage.  Finally at 4.15pm they could end the op.
He stayed in recovery for a long while, and only at 6.45pm was I able to see him settled in ICU.   He will stay sedated for a day or two.   He looked very peaceful and his colour was good.
Tubes giving him oxygen, a drip replacing the fluids lost during the op.  medication to keep him sedated, and a bit to keep his heart rate good.   And a drain.
Dec.12
A good report to share. Derrick has been moved to a general ward.   Most of his drainage tubes have been removed, plus his feeding tube. He is still dozing off a lot of the time, but is clear headed when he is not asleep. They are keeping an eye on his kidney function.
Still on drips for pain and hydration. He has been up in a chair, and will be taken for his first walk tomorrow.
Dec.17
The great 'celebration' is on.  Derrick is moving from the hospital to the hotel tomorrow.
Then we have a couple of trips to the hospital for blood tests, then a final appointment with Prof McGriffin on Friday 28th December. Our flight back to Hobart is booked for our return on Saturday 29th December !!!!!!!
The prof is very pleased with Derrick's speedy progress and is confident that there will not be any problems. He will need to continue taking Warfarin.
These next two weeks will be filled with increasing the distance that Derrick can walk, and hoping that his appetite will return.   Getting home should also help with that.
Thank you everyone who has walked with us through our medical adventure.   Thank you for your prayers.  God has been so faithful, not only with Derrick's care, but his amazing care of me too.
Derrick will be home for his birthday and we will enjoy special time with Jayne on her fleeting visit.

Thank you for faithfully praying for us throughout this year. Please do not stop now as we are not finished with this year, not even by a long shot. If we do not communicate again with you, we want to wish you all a Blessed Merry Christmas that only our Saviour can give you, and a Happy New Year.

Love as always
Rossouw-clan
