What a beautiful day this turned out to be. My Pinoy friend, Perlito, and his wife plus some other Pinoy pastors came and visit us tonight. Always such a privilege to be amongst the people that we love so much. Filipinos have the ability to make you happy. Just love talking and laughing with them.
Here is a small story about a true friend. A good friend of mine, Thomas, phoned me from Greece and was very worried about his old friend Joost, which is currently staying in their home here in Siem Reap. Thomas is in the process of selling his beautiful home and Joost need to find another place to stay but he fell ill and is in no position or has no ability to help himself.
I went over there and found a real pitiful uncle on a bed in a small room, stinking of urine and cannot help himself. There is an old lady that looks after him but she is so frail that she cannot help him properly. Thomas arranged that I can bring him to Battambang to his wife’s family so that they could look after him. So I made a bed for Joost in the back of the truck and we hid the road. Talking to him, I discovered that he is a Medical doctor from the profession and he works all around the world even in Lesotho. He said that he was ok till 2 weeks back when he got Chikungunya and then could not help himself and went backward so badly that he was not sure how to help himself.
When I came to Battambang, Thomas’s family was ready for him. It is amazing what people that love other people, can do. There are a lot of families together and they let Joost feel so at home and I knew that they will look after him. We arranged that a doctor will come to him and give him a checkup so that he can be fit to go back to Holland.
I was touched by Thomas’s help to his friend all the way across the globe. That is what I call:”” a good friend that sticks like a brother.”” Now it will be just a matter of time for Joost to get better and he will be on his way. It is sad to say but we see many old men around town that can do with real TLC. Some really look pitiful and that grabs your heart every time you see them. Let us learn a lesson from this. Look after your old people, do not neglect them because one of these days it can be you that needs help.
I will be on my way to the jungle tomorrow and looking forward to some fresh air and mud. My good friend Manoj will get me halfway and we will do the trip together. Always nice to have him around. I told his wife that I need him around me to keep me in check on the bike. Good friends are hard to come by these days. Please pray for us for safe riding as I need to take a bus and bike and Manoj need to ride from Phnom Pehn. Pray for our medical outreach to the remote places so we can help people where ever they need help and cannot get it.
Gideon and I are still under the weather because of coughing and sneezing and Toinette is still experiencing a lot of pain in her wrists from the Chikungunya. We do not complain because we know that our little aches and pains are nothing compared to some of the things people around us need to go through daily.
Please pray with us for the USA tomorrow as they will have their Election. This will be a very important election for them and we pray that the best man will be the President. We pray against riots and violence that are predicted in this time and pray that people will accept the outcome of the elections.
Thank you all for praying for us. Please keep in contact and tell us what happens in your neck of the woods, even if it is a cement jungle.
Love
Rossouw-clan
