We just came back from a weekend of visiting some friends in Phnom Pehn. The big city is really not a place for me but with our friends that are leaving soon, we went to visit in order for Anton also to see his “”family.”” Always good to make contact with the guys in the big city and encourage everyone as far as we go. It is like Anton say: ”these people are our family.””
Even after the elections in Thailand, we are still
waiting for peace on the border. There are still a lot of people that cannot go
home due to red-zone areas. Lots of negotiations needs to take place and border
lines been drawn after complete peace. Please pray that the newly elected
government of Thailand and the Cambodian government can reach a deal in order
for everyone to go home in peace.
Please pray for our pastor Dim’s daughter. They went
to Phnom Pehn due to her illness but nothing was really done. They will be back
again tomorrow for more tests in Phnom Pehn. Pray that they finally can get
someone that can give them good advice.
Pray for travel mercies as Greg, Marci, Shannon and Marie will fly back to the States on Wednesday. Our hearts are full of love for these 2 couples and all they come and do here for the people.
Happy Chinese New Year to all our Chinese friends, especially in Malaysia. Here in Asia, this is a big celebration and one of the three New Year's we get to be part of.
Chinese New Year, also known as the Spring
Festival, marks the beginning of a new year on the traditional lunisolar
Chinese calendar. It is one of the most important holidays in Chinese culture
and was placed on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity list in
2024. Marking the end of winter and the beginning of spring, this festival
takes place from Chinese New Year's Eve (the evening preceding the first day of
the year) to the Lantern Festival, held on the 15th day of the year. The first
day of the Chinese New Year falls on the new moon that appears between 21
January and 20 February. The Chinese New Year is associated with several myths
and customs. The festival was traditionally a time to honour deities and
ancestors. Throughout China, different regions celebrate the New Year with
distinct local customs and traditions. Chinese New Year's Eve is an occasion
for Chinese families to gather for the annual reunion dinner. Traditionally,
every family would thoroughly clean their house, symbolically sweeping away any
ill fortune to make way for incoming good luck. Windows and doors may be
decorated with red paper-cuts and couplets representing themes such as good
fortune, happiness, wealth, and longevity. Other activities include lighting firecrackers
and giving money in red envelopes. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_New_Year
Thank you once again for your prayers and may the Lord
be with you all in this week to come. Love
Rossouw-clan
