Well, we kicked off this year with a good outreach into the jungle with Manoj and Pheakadey with us. This boy is the son of the people we always stay in the jungle. While riding he is maneuvering his drone and just use one hand to drive, while we, experience drivers hahaha, struggle to keep our bikes upright. Show you that having a fancy bike does not usually make you a good rider. Our first stop was at the old temple where the people were waiting for us. They were so glad to see us and wanted to know why we did not come in such a long time. Long story short, Covit is to blame.
They were bugging me for glasses already for a long time and I finally remember to get 2 pairs of glasses. The lady was so happy that she immediately started to wear them. We take simple reading glasses for granted while others do not have that U$2.50 to buy them. Hopefully, we can get cheaper ones in the future. Manoj of course did what he does best and talking and laughing with these people. Just to show that Jesus did not judge people for what they believe in, rather encourage them with the necessary love and patience to turn to Him. It is a very long time since I came there the first time, you will never know when these guardians of the temple will respond to the word of God. They sure are listening to Manoj when he talks.
There is a definite influx of people into the jungle doing the mining. In the process of getting the precious gold out, the destruction is horrific. Trees and plants will never grow there again and the jungle is riddled with deep holes around every corner. People that do not know will say it's easy money but believe me, this is not easy at all. Working 24/7 with no rest, takes its toll on people. Apart from mining, they are harvesting cassava as well and that needs to be cut into small pieces and dried in the sun before they can sell it. It is hard work for little money. People do not complain they just work. Looking at their smiling faces and happiness, I cannot but ponder on the idea that we are so used to complaining about all the good stuff we have, as we say in Namibia, you complain about a white bread under your arm………..long time ago white bread was more expensive than brown bread so we live on brown bread, now that people live more healthy it’s the other way around.
Our last stop is always at our friend Pheakadey’s house. This is like a standing rule that we are always coming there and that makes it the ideal place to leave some medicine as well. The anti is giving it to everyone around and there are a lot of people, scattered in the jungle. Giving us the best food available is the norm and we always go away by eating way too much. I always tell Toinette that I eat better in the jungle than at home hahaha. We always learn lessons of hospitality and care with love, even if you have nothing, from these poor people. That’s why these outreaches is more for me than it is for the people, cause this teach me to be humble and see with eyes from their perspective.
Please pray for my good friend HEang’s father. He had some heart problems and the doctor told them if they came an hour later, he would have been dead. He is struggling with severe pain in his leg that is, after 4 years not healed. I am wondering if that is not why his heart is getting strained with all his stress with pain. He is on meds and we will monitor him closely.
We are very blessed with Cambodia that does not have a lot of Covit cases. They discover more cases due to the fact that some migrant workers returning from Thailand, which is not doing so great. The government is doing their best to contain whoever is positive and it seems to work pretty well. Schools are open and people are going their normal ways. We pray that the Covit situation wherever you are, will ease and that the vaccine will be available soon.
We praise God for His goodness and His grace every day. We pray to heal in Jesus' name to all that are affected. May God bless you this week to come and may you walk with Him at this time.
Love
Rossouw-clan
