Medical to the remote

This Blog is all about the work of God. Nothing we do is without the knowledge of our Father. He is the soul provider for everything we do.
We are Mordegai, Toinette, Suzaan, Gideon, and Anton Rossouw from Namibia-Africa. . This Blog is all about our lives here in Cambodia while Suzaan works in South Africa. We are real Farmers from Africa and we love life and what it has to offer and enjoy it day by day.

Mordegai travels to remote villages, doing much needed medical work , where no other doctors go, with local pastors.

Gideon is no longer with us but Anton is studying in Malaysia. Toinette joins FGC Community Link Cambodia to the villages close by, teaching local children in an after school setting and also women about Health Issues in a village setting.

We consider us Asians as we live such a long time in Asia, eating rice as a staple food and not meat......

Our motto in life comes from a dear friend:

With common sense and God we
can accomplish a lot

Monday night prayers 20 April 2020

Hey there from a veryyyy hot Cambodia. We had some nice rain in the week but now the weather took it a notch up again. Humidity is an all-time high and sweating is part of daily life and even when you try to sleep. I go through about 4 liters of water a day and still feels dehydrated. Just finish peeling 3 buckets full of the most delicious mangoes around. Our trees did not have a lot this year but it’s enough to make yummy chutney and some other yummy treats. Got some dry mango from a friend and that stuff is to die for. So we are stocked on Vit.C and seems that makes a daily difference. Our stomachs say otherwise because of all the mangoes, hahaha.

School started again this morning and the boys are into it again. That definitely helps to keep them busy besides being on the computer all day long. Poor Toinette is permanently trying to keep the boys in the house fed, what a momentous task this is. We all are just hungry, luckily there is lots of rice and sardines. We are blessed that we can go to the lake about 2km away from our house and have some time in the open. It is beautiful there with almost no people. Even the dogs can enjoy themselves. We stock up there with our Vit.D which is also necessary.

Virus update: As you can see in the news reports, it looks pretty ok but we are asked to still wait it out a bit longer. So wish we can now already move on and get the ball rolling again. We seem so blessed with not real bad cases of the virus and the treatments seem effective in all ways. This gives us great hope for the future. We are glad that the government is looking out for the interests of the people. Please continue to pray for Cambodia as this virus is still not over.

We pray that you all are safe and that the Lord will keep you sane in this week to come. Namibia is still on lockdown for a while so I know that it is a difficult time for them. We would love to hear from wherever you are and what you are up to.
Love

Cambodia COVID-19, eight straight days of ZERO positive cases
Cambodia appears to have go the COVID 19 situation under control with no new COVID-19 positive cases reported over the eight consecutive days. There were two recoveries reported in Sihanoukville province.
However, quarantine measure is in still place for inbound people by air, land, sea or water ways as well as factory workers who went home for the recently concluded Khmer New Year. They will have to face quarantine at designated centres for 14 days after informing their respective employers of their travel history during the days they were absent from work. Those who had applied or had valid reasons will be entitled to seven days paid leave while those were absent without leave would have their entire 14 days’ pay docked.
Meanwhile, the wives of four French COVID-19 infected nationals who have recently recovered expressed their gratitude to the Cambodian medical doctors at the Khmer-Soviet Friendship Hospital for their kindness and care for their husbands.
“Hello, Dr. Sourn, sorry to say thank just now. We are at Seoul Airport and we have some time ahead of us. All 4 of us, thank you very much for taking care of our husbands,” wrote the wives in a joint message.
“You are surrounded by a wonderful team. We can only express praise for the care they have been given. The doctors and nurses are extremely kind. We can only congratulate them. Another thousand THANKS to all of you. We will never forget you. Jean Marie, Jeannine Heitzler, and Jacques and Angele Deremière,” they added. https://www.khmertimeskh.com/50714987/cambodia-covid-19-eight-straight-days-of-zero-positive-cases/

Cambodia shows excellent record with recovery rate for COVID-19 with 86 percent discharged
Out of 122 reported cases of Covid-19 with one relapse for failing to follow social distancing orders, Cambodia shows remarkable ability to control the pandemic with its own calculated measures. In addition, despite its limitations in public health care, it has shown remarkable ability to treat 105 out of the 122 victims and successfully got the affected patients discharged.
Up to Monday morning, April 20, only 15 are still hospitalised for treatment. They come from the list of 122 positive cases, last reported on April 12. They include 51 Cambodians, 40 French, 13 Malaysians, five British, three Chinese, three Vietnamese, two Americans, two Indonesians, two Canadians, and one Belgian.
The 107 recovered cases included one Chinese, five  British, two Americans, one Belgian, 38 French, one Canadian, 12 Malaysians, two Indonesians, one Vietnamese and 44 Cambodians.
“Although no new case of COVID-19 has been detected in the Kingdom for a week, I’d like to ask all citizens not to be careless, but to apply the measures taken by the Royal Government and the Ministry of Health as well as the authorities concerned such as social distancing, hand washing with soap or hydro alcoholic gel, reduction of gatherings and avoidance of unnecessary displacement,” Dr. Ly Sovann, Director of the Communicable Disease Control Department at the Ministry of Health said Friday.
In neighboring countries and even in many countries around the world, he added, the COVID-19 pandemic is showing no signs of slowing down, so Cambodia may still have possible imported cases.Task Force officials, speaking on conditions of anonymity said that thus far, none of the migrant workers who had returned from Thailand before the Khmer New Year have shown any signs of the deadly virus.Quarantine measure will continue to be in place, along with flight bans from six countries, the United States, Germany, France, Italy, Spain and Iran.
Cambodia effectively remains under defacto lock down with very few flights coming in and any passengers coming into Cambodia by any route, air, sea land or water ways, will have to be sent directly to 14 days’ quarantine except those with diplomatic passports and with special visas or have valid documentations which will enable them to leave the airport but be quarantined elsewhere, like the case of the eight Chinese hydro power workers in Koh Kong.
On April 10 was lifted. All travel in and out of Phnom Penh will be banned; this measure excludes essential services and workers. All visa exemptions, visas on arrival, and e-visas are suspended until April 30.However, there have been reports of Chinese businessmen (between 60-100) entering the Kingdom daily. All foreigners must have a medical certificate issued no more than 72 hours prior to date of travel stating that they have not tested positive for Covid-19 and have proof of insurance policy with minimum medical coverage of $50,000.
The challenge, the officials said are “the possibility of more migrant workers entering Cambodia once the lockdown in Thailand eases.
The 14 days mandatory quarantine for workers who had returned to the provinces despite the travel restrictions is necessary, they said, as the pandemic and cluster infections possibilities are still of concern and thus, vigilance and surveillance is critical. https://www.khmertimeskh.com/50715010/cambodia-shows-excellent-record-with-recovery-rate-for-covid-19-with-86-percent-discharged/
